What Is The History Of 7UP And Charles Leiper Grigg?

Charles Grigg was born in 1868 at Branch Price, Missouri. As a grownup, Grigg moved into St. Louis and started working in sales and advertising, where he had been introduced into the carbonated beverages business.

The Way Charles Grigg Created 7UP

In 1919, Grigg worked for a production firm owned by Vess Jones.  That is where Grigg devised and promoted the first soft beverage, an orange-flavored beverage named Whistle for a firm owned by Vess Jones. You can buy 7up retro cans at affordable prices via online sources.

Following a dispute with management, Charles Grigg stopped his job (give Whistle) and started working for Warner Jenkinson Company, developed a flavoring agent for soft beverages.  Grigg then locates another soft drink named Howdy.  When he eventually moved from Warner Jenkinson Co., he even took his soft beverage Howdy together with him.

Charles Grigg chose to concentrate on the lemon-lime taste.  In October 1929, he's discovered a new drink called"Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda."  The title was immediately changed to 7Up Lithiated Lemon Soda and again shifted to just 7Up in 1936. Grigg died in 1940 at Age 71 in St. Louis, Missouri, is survived by his wife, Lucy E. Alexander.

Lithium at 7UP

The first formula contained lithium citrate, which can be employed in many different patented drugs in time to improve the mood.  It's been used for a long time to deal with manic-depression.  It had been popular to visit the spring lithium comprising Lithia Springs.

Lithium is an element with an atomic number seven, which some have suggested as a concept why 7UP includes a title.  Grigg never clarified the title, but he boosts 7UP as having a direct impact on mood.  Since it surfaced during the stock exchange crash of 1929 and the start of the Great Depression, this can be a selling point.
