Product Design Process: Understanding How It Works

The design process is a hidden behind-the-scenes process that goes into making products. Product designers typically work with engineers and other stakeholders during the product development cycle to create products that meet customer needs. The following diagram illustrates the main stages of the design process:

The following diagram illustrates the main stages of the design process:

Stage 1: ideation (defining what the product should do) Stage 2: concept development (creating rough designs) Stage 3: user research (finding out how people will use and interact with the product) Stage 4: prototype

Design Processes

Design is the process of creating a product that meets the needs and expectations of the customer. The steps of the design process are: 1)user research, 2)concept development, 3)design sketching, 4)working drawings, 5)final design.

User research is the first step in the design process. You need to understand your target market and what they want from your product. You can do user research by talking to your target market, conducting surveys, or using focus groups.

Concept development is the second step in the design process. You develop a concept for your product based on user research and your understanding of the market. Concepts can include products, services, ideas for new products or services, or variations of existing products or services.

Design sketching is the third step in the design process. You create drawings and sketches to show your concept to others. Design sketches should be simple and easy to understand. They should also show how the product works and how it’s different from other products in the market.

Working drawings are the fourth step in the design process. Working drawings show how your concept will look when it’s finished. They also include details.
